On
a beautiful June evening over fifty SEGS members and
friends, including Jean Lumsden and Gordon Smith, both
Founder Members,
joined Committee Members and our
President at Sweetwoods Park
Golf Club to celebrate the
Society’s Diamond Jubilee.
Canapés and drinks were served on
arrival and guests reminisced
on the terrace or in the bar before sitting down to a delicious
roast beef dinner.
Throughout the evening photographs charting the 60 year history
of SEGS were projected on to a wall and diners delighted in
recognising
well known faces from the past. Of course,
some of
those faces
were their own albeit a few years younger and with
fewer grey
hairs.
Richard Greenwood, the Society President, gave his usual amusing
and entertaining speech before the grand raffle was drawn. There
was a fabulous array of prizes which included a round of golf,
deer stalking, a gundog training lesson and a shooting lesson
at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School.
The generous support of the raffle enabled the Society to make
a donation to Canine Partners and also fund the ‘Diamond
Jubilee
Award’ which will be awarded annually, to a member
or non member,
for their ‘Services to the Society’ during
the previous year.
An excellent evening of fine food, good company and fond memories.
This year we will be holding a Midsummer Supper and
social
evening
at The Coach and Horses, Danehill, East Sussex.
This family run, traditional country pub and restaurant in the heart
of the Sussex countryside is a free house and prides itself on the
quality
of its real ale and award winning food.
The evening, on Friday 21st June, includes a 3 course
meal for
just £22 and will also feature the first presentation of the
new
‘Diamond Jubilee Award’.
Places will be limited so please book
early!
